Conservation of the iconic 20thC church of new town Stevenage

St Andrew and St George was consecrated in 1960 and is listed Grade II. It is a focal point of Stevenage’s new town plan, a vibrant, spacious place for worship and community. The Church was designed by Seely and Paget, known for transforming Eltham Palace, the parabolic concrete frame was designed by engineer Kalman Hajnal-Kónyi. Now in great dis-repair, we are advising on repair and conservation. The Church with the Diocese of St Albans is organising to protect its heritage and raise funds to carry out conservation and repairs.

Phyllida’s Quinquennial Inspection identified immediate threats to the fabric, functionality, and sustainability of the building. The priority is to repair the actively leaking flat roofs, so the church can remain open and continue to serve as a place of worship and important civic and community asset. Ongoing investigations include condition surveys of the concrete frame and panels, copper and windows, acoustic evaluation and CCTV drainage survey and flood assessment to establish the full scope of repair, refurbishment and improvements necessary to the building fabric and prepare a Conservation Management Plan. Longer term, improvements are planned to the approach, kitchen and WCs to make the church spaces more inclusive to meet the church’s long-term vision of providing facilities that are fit for purpose and reflect the needs of a growing population.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
